About Ann-Gerd.com

My name is Ann-Gerd and I want to change the face of Crochet!

I want to challenge what we can do with Crochet - and I want to explore what happens when crochet, design and sustainable thinking is mixed. How can we see Crochet in a new way? For me, Crochet is a tool that can turn my imagination into reality and into something you can touch. If you can Crochet then you can create. I would like to share that with you!

"Being able to crochet is almost like having a SUPER POWER!"

I love that I can turn a skien of yarn into something that can be used. It can be clothes that can last for many years or a shopping net for supermarket goods. It is absolutely crucial to me that what I create is usable. That's why I created www.Ann-Gerd.com.

"I crochet with my heart, my hands, my eyes and my brain"

My background as an architect is very clear in my patterns. Drawing my thoughts is a central part of who I am. I draw what I want to create in diagrams - at the same time as I test it out in reality. Sometimes I start with an idea that evolves in drawings and testing. Other times, it's my experiments that start the process toward a finished recipe.

I have been crocheting since I was little girl. Like som many mothers and daughters, my mother taught me how to crochet. Both of my grandmothers were really good at crocheting. In my family, my grandmother on my fathers side was known for "only" doing crochet. She did not knit much.

Ann-Gerd.com is a rebellion against the reduction of Crochet.

"If what I'm doing is not sustainable, then it's a problem!"

Sustainability is a key focus in my work with crochet. But I have to admit, I do not have all the answers. What I have are questions that I constantly ask - and look at when i work. So let's start with them:

How can we crochet and create in a more sustainable way?How can we create and make sure that the world we leave behind us for our children is sustainable? How can what we did yesterday be done today in a sustainable way?

My focus points are:

The yarn you have already bought is the most sustainable yarn - use it :-)

My designs must be usable - that is, have a function or solve a problem.

Even small improvements in a sustainable direction count. A drop in the ocean also creates rings in the water.

Creating beautiful and simple designs - if what you crochet is beautiful, you will love it and use it!

That my Crochet Patterns have a really high quality. They should be easy to read. If you need help, there is always a Youtube Video showing the next step.

Making my crochet Patterns consist of crochet diagrams, which quickly give you both the overview and all the details.

I focus on the fact that my recipes can be used for "leftovers". Look through your stash - maybe you already have yarn that is similar to what is used in the recipe. The yarn from your stash has already been produced and the environmental impact has already happend.I research and play constantly with new types of yarn.

I continuously research how my patterns should evolve to fit new and more sustainable yarn types.
